Manolo Blahnik designed the Summer 2022 collection from the idyllic surroundings of his beloved Canary Islands. Beneath vivid summer sunlight with balmy ocean breezes, he reflected on the past five decades of exuberant style and drew inspiration from a typically eclectic set of references – London in the 60s and 70s, elegant historical figures, talented artists, revolutionary designers and charming destinations.

Looking to the London of his formative years in the 60s and 70s, Manolo reimagined iconic floral prints with daisies in pretty pastels and acid brights with a retro curved heel.

Manolo found inspiration in the iconic styles of women over every epoch. He channelled the timeless femininity of Audrey Hepburn with vivid colours and delicate hand-made bows. He looked also to Rita de Acosta, an elegant socialite regarded “the most picturesque woman in America,” who inspired a series of styles in graceful lace with lustrous pearls.

Manolo’s limitless love for the beauty of Sicily shone through with a new print of delicate seashells in saturated hues with organic curves.

The emotive works of British sculptor Barbara Hepworth inspired a dynamic teardrop line in contrasting soft colours. Manolo continued this use of undulating lines for a dramatic carved-out silhouette in a neutral palette, evoking the stark minimalism of iconoclastic American architect Louis I. Kahn.

The Summer 2022 collection referenced far and wide for a cohesive edit of showstopping creations. As always, pristine craftsmanship and delightful detailing were at the forefront of each style. Positivity imbued his signature use of pop colours, flattering feminine silhouettes and sense of timelessness.
