Autumn ’23 was a tribute to the unparalleled creativity and exquisite craftmanship of Manolo Blahnik. The season reflected on an amalgamation of imaginative inspirations: from the classic glamour of the Golden Age of Hollywood, to the modernity of urban cityscapes, to the elaborate natural motifs of Baroque aesthetics.

LA PARISIENNE

Manolo paid tribute to an icon of visual culture and his dear friend and collaborator, André Leon Talley. A fashion trailblazer whose style emanated vivacious fun and refined glamour, was translated through striking shearling details and bold flocked prints. Mesh polka dot, lavish shearling detail and giraffe print fabrics, create a contemporary take on classic silhouettes in a salute to his vibrant, larger than life approach.

HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR

For Autumn ’23 Manolo was inspired by Marlene Dietrich. Striking the perfect balance between androgyny and glamour, the femme-fatale charm of the German-American actress is translated to styles in high contrast windowpane prints such as the Latexa pictured below. Sparkling satin pumps, baguette jewel embellishments and tri-colour styles emulated the colourful persona of the society icon.

URBAN CITYSCAPES

Manolo’s designs have long been shaped by an architectural sense of proportion. Inspired by the urban environment, he looked to sleek cityscapes to create styles with a balance of form and function. A palette of neutrals, with backstitch detailing, create simple yet striking silhouettes that celebrate modernity and shape. The backstitch detailing is featured on the Homerasli, Merasa and Homeraso, pictured below.

BAROQUE STYLING

Ever inspired by art and artisanry styles, Manolo was influenced by romantic and theatrical elements of 17th Century Baroque aesthetics. Motifs with ornate detailing and the lavish metalwork of the Gilded era provided inspiration for the Autumn ’23 collection. Elegant slingback pumps and flat mules feature laser cut designs in Baroque scrolls, as seen on the Kasai, Zaborus and Bemusa pictured below, embodying the refined luxury of the 17th century.
