General Manager – New York

Purpose of Position

To manage the Store and team members by driving sales generation, the delivery of excellent customer experience and coaching team members. The role will also provide store and sales reports as necessary for the Head of Retail. Will also collaborate with the Head of Retail for the buy for the store ensuring the correct mix of fashion and classics.

Key Responsibilities include:

Strategy and analysis

  • Advise and support the Head of Retail in developing a seasonal buying strategy, in terms of product mix and volumes, to drive sales and exceed targets whilst promoting a healthy balance between creative/fashion and classic product lines.
  • Attend seasonal buying sessions, presenting expert local knowledge of the market place and clientele (tastes and preference).
  • Provide regular market studies including statistical analysis of competitors, assortments, price points and clientele (both local and visiting) with a view to highlighting additional sales opportunities.
  • Manage the collating, analysis, reporting and evaluating of sales working in conjunction with the Head of Retail.

Sales generation and target focus

  • Achieve and exceed personal goals.
  • Provide coaching for team members to help them achieve their individual sales targets and KPI’s.
  • Record and update sales performance, such as WSR, Sell Throughs, product feedback, trade feedback.
  • Manage and prepare the two major seasonal sales events and additional sales events as may occur.
  • Communicate feedback on best sellers, slow sellers, missed sales opportunities and customer requests to the Head of Retail.

Client experience and relationship building

  • Provide exceptional client experience and service; provide personalised and timely after-sales service to clients, dealing effectively with client complaints.
  • Demonstrate high level of product knowledge (telling the story, features and benefits etc.) and coach other team members.
  • Develop strong, long-lasting, commercial relationships with clients, establishing a regular client base and providing support to team members to ensure all sales opportunities are optimized.
  • Develop relationships with surrounding businesses and brands to help grow and develop the MB business and assist in the management of special client events.

Operational excellence

  • Prepare and maintain stock on the sales floor, following Manolo Blahnik visual guidelines and standards.
  • Manage the end of day procedures such as cashing up.
  • Management and preparation of regular and accurate stock takes.
  • Manage the daily replenishment of stock according to the sell through.
  • Maintain high back of house standards such as stock room, stock security etc.

Leadership and mentoring

  • Coach and mentor team members by setting daily and weekly goals.
  • Manage the delivery of product training and client service training.
  • Maintain effective communication with all team members and Head of Retail.
  • Maintain and assist in the creation of enjoyable and respectful work environment.

Any other tasks as requested

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Substantial experience in a retail management role, ideally incorporating the retail buying function, preferably in the luxury industry.
  • Excellent Commercial awareness and business acumen.
  • Leadership: High level of accountability required with the ability to direct, motivate and inspire people internally and externally. Experience of motivating and leading successful teams; coaching and mentoring. Strong and motivational team-building skillset to drive excellence in results and all aspects of client experience.
  • Demonstrate evidence of planning successful events.
  • Intellect: Excellent analytical, report-writing skills, accuracy and attention to detail. Strong problem-solving skills with a strong, solution-based mindset. Ability to prioritise tasks, and ensure delivery of results within tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Communication: Strong and effective presentation skills and ability to converse with a diverse range of people at all levels.
